Should we add scripts and character dialogue rosters?[]

I've been thinking about this for a while.

Way back in 2008 when I started editing Bully Wiki, Wikia was far more similar to Wikipedia than it is now. Back then, copyright was actually taken seriously.

I'm not going to bang on about the reasons behind Wikia the fan encyclopedia for specific subjects turning into FANDOM the social butterfly phone kid whatchamacallit because the change happened years ago and the reason doesn't matter.

What does matter is, clearly FANDOM staff no longer care about plagiarism unless it's between wikis. As for Rockstar, they've gotten involved in GTA Wiki twice - once to confirm that Ray Bulgarin's name is not short for Rodislav, and once to confirm that an editor claiming he was "Rockstar's Official Wiki Representative" was no such thing. Especially there they had plenty of chances to say anything about hosting scripts and tons of pictures, and they didn't.

And it's especially ridiculous, I think, that we've (meaning User:SodaCat before she left and myself) have been hosting quotes on Bully Fanon wiki but not here.

So let's put it to community discussion. Should we start hosting quote databases and mission scripts? Jeff (talk·stalk) 20:56, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Yes, I definitely think that we should add mission scripts and character dialogues. After all, this is the Bully Wiki, which should cover up pretty much everything that is known about the game. Take the example of GTA Wiki, that has had mission transcripts (click here for an example) and radio show dialogues (click here for an example) documented for a while. Even some characters (click here for an example) do have quotes. Nothing has happened to the Wiki because such details were documented. After all, it's the GTA Wiki, so everything related to the GTA games should be documented, just like on Bully Wiki, everything related to Bully should be documented.
I also asked about the character quotes a while ago, I am glad that there is some initiative on that front. I honestly find it weird (and a bit ridiculous) that character quotes are kept on a separate Wiki that documents fanon content - as though quotes are fanon and are not extracted from the game files. If we are to bring over character quotes here, I think we should have some standardization. The quote pages on Bully Fanon Wiki are extremely randomly formatted, and that does not look professional. We should first have a page that documents a standard format for such pages so that it can be followed. I know there is an example on that Wiki which you created. It is a good basis, but if we are to adopt it, we should also contribute to it more (Bully has many more quotes to offer). Moreover, we also need a page to document when each quote is meant to be used (perhaps a page that is not your sandbox).
Regarding the implementation of mission transcripts, I think we will need to create a certain "infrastructure", so to say, in order for them to look tidy, and not just be a bunch of empty text. The transcripts on GTA Wiki have a certain formatting to them (as it can be seen in the examples above), and we can use the template there for some inspiration.
I'm sorry if I went the extra mile with my suggestions. I am just trying to help.

^Yep, I think we should as well. I remember stumbling upon the Bully Fanon Wiki quotes a while back and being unsure if they were canon, a mix of fanon and canon, or both; I wouldn't doubt if there are a few "extra quotes" scattered around that passed by and weren't removed. Any quote page that is standardized and easy enough to locate here seems like a net-positive to me.

The GTA Wiki Scriptbox template should be good enough to use as a starting point; I know of a Dialogue template from the Dev Wiki that is much simpler but seems too barebones for here, and given that other wikis with transcripts don't even have them formatted, I think having a template to format the transcripts is worth a shot. —StrawberryMaster talkcontribs 11:43, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. DL1983 (talk) 19:15, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
